These terms govern your use of the LanternScan mobile application. LanternScan is developed by Impossible Labs Ltd. By installing or using the app you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app. For questions, contact us via the Impossible Labs website.
The app
LanternScan is a utility that discovers Bluetooth Low Energy advertisements and devices reachable on your local Wi-Fi network, and offers a best-guess identification of what those devices are. It is provided free of charge for personal, non-commercial use.
Acceptable use
You may use LanternScan only on networks and around devices you own or are otherwise authorised to inspect, and only in a manner permitted by the laws that apply to you. You agree not to use the app to:
- access, probe, or interfere with networks or devices without authorisation;
- harass, stalk, surveil, or endanger any person;
- circumvent security controls or violate any third party’s rights; or
- break any applicable local, national, or international law or regulation.
Identification results are best-effort guesses based on publicly broadcast signals. They may be incomplete or wrong, and must not be relied upon as proof of a device’s identity, ownership, or intent.
Licence and open source
LanternScan is open-source software. Your use of the source code is governed by the licence published in the project repository, which prevails over these terms with respect to the code itself. These terms govern your use of the distributed application.
Third-party services
The app is distributed through the Apple App Store, whose terms also apply to your download and use. If you enable optional online identification, requests are sent to the Fingerbank Cloud API, which is operated by a third party under its own terms and privacy policy. We do not control these services and are not responsible for them.
No warranty
LanternScan is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that its identifications will be correct.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Impossible Labs Ltd. shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or for any loss arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the app. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
Changes to the app and these terms
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the app or any of its features at any time. We may also update these terms when the app’s features or practices change. We will update the effective date and publish the revised terms at this same URL. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
